Steamed Chocolate Cake



  1. All purpose flour – 11/4 cups
  2. Cocoa powder – 4 tbsp
  3. Powdered sugar – 11/4 cups
  4. Baking powder – 1 tsp
  5. Baking soda – 1/2 tsp
  6. Milk – 11/4 cups
  7. Vinegar – 2 tbsp
  8. Egg – 1, large
  9. Melted Butter – 2 tbsps., cooled
  10. Vanilla essence – 1 tsp
  11. Salt – a pinch


  1. Add vinegar to milk & mix. Keep it aside for 15 minutes. This is sour milk.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, salt & cocoa powder.
  3. Beat together the egg & powdered sugar with an electric mixer. Stir in the vanilla essence.
  4. Add the melted butter & mix. Add the sifted flour mixture & the sour milk alternately till you get a smooth cake batter.
  5. Pour this batter into a greased cake tin & cover it tightly with an Aluminium foil ( the steam should not escape from the cake). Cook the cake in a steamer for 45 minutes on high heat.
  6. Let the cake cool completely before cutting it into desired shapes.
