For the balls :-

Milk powder – 1 1/4 cups

All purpose flour – 3 tbsp + 1/4 tsp baking powder

Cornflour – 2 tbsp

Baking soda – 1/4 tsp

Oil to deep fry

Water as needed

For the syrup:-

Sugar – 2 cups

Lemon juice – of 1/4 th of a lemon

Powdered cardamom – 1/2 tsp

Rose essence – 1/4 tsp

Water – 3 cups


Mix together the flour & baking powder. Add milk powder, corn flour, baking soda & cornflour & mix well. Add water little by little till you get a soft dough. Apply little ghee on your hands & knead this dough. Divide the dough into 12 balls.

Heat the oil & fry the balls on medium heat till they turn dark brown in color. Keep rolling the gulabjamuns so that they are evenly browned. Drain the balls & keep aside.

Frying the jamuns

For the syrup boil 3 cups of water. Add the  sugar & mix till sugar dissolves. Add the powdered cardamom powder, lemon juice & rose essence & let boil on a low heat. Pour this hot syrup on the fried balls.
