Fried Cake


All purpose flour – 11/4 – 11/2 cups

Egg – 1 large

Sugar – 1/4 cup

Powdered cardamom – 1/4 tsp

Salt – 1/4 tsp

Baking soda – 1/4 tsp

Oil to deep fry the cakes


Beat the egg very well. Add sugar & beat again; mix in baking soda, salt & powdered cardamom. Now add the flour little by little & mix well; knead to make a smooth dough. Keep this dough aside for 1 hour.

Divide this dough into 6 equal portions & shape each portion roughly into a square. Make 2 cuts crosswise on the dough with a sharp knife.

Heat the oil; reduce heat to low & deep fry the dough portions 2-3 batches at a time till golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Serve with a cup of coffee/ tea.
