  1. Heat 1 tbsp of coconut oil in a frying pan & roast 1/8 cup of split urad dal till it turns golden brown in color. Grind it to a fine powder in your coffee grinder.
  2. To the same pan, add 11/4 cup of freshly grated coconut, 1 cup of curryleaves (tightly packed), 1/2 tsp of salt, 3 dry red chillies (I used the spicier variety) & roast till the coconut is browned & turns crisp. Add half a gooseberry sized ball of tamarind & fry for a minute.
  3. Grind along with the urad dal powder to a fine/ coarse chammanthipodi. Add a pinch of sugar to balance all the flavours.
  4. Your yummy chammanthipodi is ready to serve with rice.
