Nutella swirl tea cake

This is a simple tea cake with the flavour of orange, chocolate & hazelnut.


  1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  2. Prepare a 6″ cake tin.
  3. Sift together 1 cup of plain flour, 1 tsp of baking powder,  & a pinch of salt.
  4. Beat together 75 grams of softened butter & 3/4 cup of powdered sugar till light & fluffy for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Beat in 2 medium eggs , one by one & beat well after each addition.
  6. Beat in 1 tsp of vanilla essence and 1 tbsp of orange zest (optional).
  7. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients alternated with 1/4-1/2 cup of milk.
  8. The cake batter will be thick but will be of dropping consistency.
  9. Transfer half of the batter to the cake tin. Drop 1.5 heaping tbsps of nutella on the batter & swirl with a butter knife to give a marble effect. Pour the remaining batter on top of the marbled cake batter. Again, put 1.5 heaping tbsps of nutella & repeat swirling to give the marble effect on the top of the cake.
  10. Bake at 180C for 30 minutes or till a skewer inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
