Special wet chocolate cake



For the cake batter:-

  1. All purpose flour – 2 c
  2. Baking soda –1/2 tsp.
  3. Unsweeteed cocoa powder – 1/4 cup
  4. Salt – a pinch
  5. Butter ( at room temp.) – 175 g
  6. Caster sugar – 275 grams
  7. Egg –2 numbers, large
  8. Vanilla essence – 1.5 tsp.
  9. Sour cream – 80 ml.
  10. Hot water – 1/3 cup
  11. Chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)- 3/4 cup

For the soaking syrup:-

  1. Water – 125 ml.
  2. Cocoa powder – 1 tbsp (level)
  3. Caster sugar – 1/2 cup


  1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  2. Prepare a 9×9″ cake tin & keep it aside.
  3. Sift together the plain flour, baking soda, cocoa powder and salt.
  4. Beat the butter for 3 minutes with a hand mixer till creamy. Add the caster sugar in 3 additions and beat well after each addition.
  5. Beat in the eggs, one by one and the vanilla essence.
  6. Fold in the sifted flour mixture alternated with the sour cream. Finally add the hot water & mix.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin.
  9. Bake the cake at 180C for 35 minutes or till a skewer inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. While the cake is baking, make the chocolate syrup.
  10. For the syrup, combine all the ingredients in a saucepan & cook till syrupy.
  11. Once the cake is baked, poke holes all over the cake with a skewer & spread the chocolate syrup evenly over the cake with a spoon.
  12. Let cool down completely before serving.
