Tiger prawn fry – Kerala style

Ingredients:-

  1. Tiger prawns – 500 grams, cleaned & deveined
  2. Kashmiri chilly powder – 1 heaping tsp.
  3. Red chilly powder – 1/2 heaping tsp.
  4. Coriander powder – 1/4 heaping tsp.
  5. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp.
  6. Sweet paprika powder – 1 tsp. (level)
  7. Pepper powder – 1/4 tsp., level
  8. Lime juice – 1.5 tsp.
  9. Garlic – 5 big cloves ( pasted)
  10. Greenchillies – 2 numbers, pasted
  11. Ginger – 1/2″, pasted
  12. Curryleaves – a few, torn
  13. Salt – 1 tsp.
  14. Oil – 1 tbsp.
  15. Coconut oil – 1 .5 tbsps.
  16. Onion – 2 medium, finely chopped
  17. Kashmiri chilly powder – 1/4 level tsp.

Method:-

  1. If your tiger prawns are big , then cut them into half from the middle.
  2. Marinate the cleaned prawns with all the ingredients from 2-14 in your refrigerator for atleast 2 hours.
  3. Heat coconut oil in a frying pan & add the marinated prawns to the pan. Shallow fry till browned on both the sides. Drain the fried prawns on paper towels.
  4. To the same pan, add the finely chopped onions + a few curryleaves & fry till they turn golden brown in colour.
  5. Stir in 1/4 tsp of kashmiri chilly powder & cook on low heat for a minute.
  6. Add the fried prawns & mix well.
  7. Serve hot with rice & Moru kachiyathu.
