Chocolate and peppermint marble brownies



For the brownies:-

  1. Butter – 50 grams (softened)
  2. Caster sugar – 1/2 cup
  3. Eggs – 2 numbers, medium
  4. Vanilla essence – 1 tsp.
  5. Salt – a pinch
  6. Chocolate syrup (I used Hershey’s) – 3/4 cup
  7. Plain flour – 1/2 cup

For the mint buttercream:-

  1. Butter – 50 grams (softened)
  2. Icing sugar – 1 cup
  3. Salt – a pinch
  4. Green food colour – 1/2 tsp.
  5. American peppermint extract – 1/2 tsp.

For the chocolate spread:-

  1. Butter – 25 grams
  2. Semi-sweet chocolate chips – 1/2 cup


For the brownie base:-

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  2. Beat together the softened butter and caster sugar till creamy and fluffy for about 7- 10 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs, one by one & beat well after each addition.
  4. Add the vanilla essence, chocolate syrup & salt & beat again.
  5. Fold in the sifted flour. The batter would be a bit loose.
  6. Pour batter into a 8″ square pan. Bake the brownie base at 180C for 28-30 minutes. Let cool completely before you do the frosting.

For the mint buttercream:-

Beat together all the ingredients till creamy & fluffy. Spread over the cooled brownie base & refrigerate till set.

For the chocolate layer:-

Melt the chocolate & the butter. Allow this mixture to cool slightly before you spread it over the mint layer. Chill till set.

Cut into squares & serve.


  1. I wanted to give a marble effect & so I didn’t allow the green layer to set completely before I spread the chocolate mixture.
  2. These brownies will be thin. You can double the quantity of ingredients for a thicker Brownie or bake in a smaller pan.
