Simple Upma

Ingredients:-

  1. Semolina – 1 cup
  2. Coconut oil – 4 tbsps.
  3. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  4. Urad dal – 1/4 tsp
  5. Dry red chilly – 2 numbers, split
  6. Cury leaf – 1 sprig
  7. Ginger – 3/4 tbsp, finely chopped
  8. Greenchilly – 3 numbers, finely chopped
  9. Onion – 1 medium, finely chopped
  10. Salt – 1 tsp
  11. Sugar – 1/4 – 1/2 tsp
  12. Water – 2 cups

Method:-

  1. Heat oil and splutter the mustard seeds. Add urad dal and fry till golden brown in colour. Stir in the split dry red chillies, & curry leaves.
  2. Add the chopped ginger & greenchilly.
  3. When you get a nice aroma of the ginger, add the onion & fry till it turns translucent. Add the rava & fry on medium heat for 10 minutes.
  4. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add sugar & salt; quickly add this to the roasted rava mixture & keep stirring on low heat till water completely evaporates & the upma leaves the sides of the wok like the last stage of halwa.
