Chicken mulakuvarattiyathu

Ingredients:-

  1. Chicken – 500 grams; cut into small cubes ( I like to use chicken breast)
  2. Red chilly powder – 1 heaping tsp.
  3. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
  4. Cumin powder – 1/4 tsp.
  5. Garam masala powder – 3/4 tsp.
  6. salt – 1-1.25 tsp.
  7. Thick curd – 1/2 cup
  8. Onion – 2 numbers; medium; finely chopped
  9. Tomato – 1 big/ slightly less than 1 cup; finely chopped
  10. Ginger garlic paste – 1 heaping tbsp.
  11. Coconut oil – 4 tbsps.
  12. Curryleaves – 3 sprigs
  13. Coconut cuts – 2 tbsps. or as needed

Method:-

  1. Mix together the chicken, turmeric, chilly, garam masala and cumin powders, thick curd, salt, onion, tomato and ginger garlic paste. Bring to a boil & cover cook on low heat for 25 minutes.
  2. Open the lid and allow the entire water to evaporate.
  3. In another pan, heat coconut oil. Add the curryleaves and coconut cuts & fry till golden brown in colour.
  4. Add the cooked chicken & fry on medium low heat for 30 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with rice.
